Sacred Chocolate: Winter Sosltice Celebration with Mexican Cacao

In the spirit of the holidays and cross-cultural understanding, the Lotus Healing Center is hosting a celebration for chocolate lovers! We invite you, your senses, and your friends to an evening of tasting and experiencing organic chocolate and ceremonial grade cacao - specially made by local farmers and artisanal chocolatiers from Oaxaca, Mexico.

December 21st is the culmination of energy known as the Winter Solstice - the shortest day of the year - which falls on the eve of the full moon. We hope to capture the power of this auspicious evening with a full moon inspired community gathering centered around a traditional Maya Cacao (chocolate) ceremony.

Come join us at Lotus for a sensory journey into the origins and spirit within cacao - the seed to the delicious treat we all know and love - chocolate!

What is it?
Ceremonial Cacao - the sacred bean of the Maya used in the creation of chocolate - is known as a powerful plant medicine for cultivating connection to the heart, body, mind, and spirit during meditation, community celebration, and Lunar ceremonies. The Winter Solstice 2018 falls on the night before the Full Moon - an auspicious time for manifestation, creation, and letting go before the start of the New Year. With the combination of energies from the Winter Solstice + Full Moon + sacred Maya cacao we are sure to feel the collective consciousness created in a nurturing environment. Join us at Lotus Healing Center and let cacao help lift our hearts, fill us with joy, let go of stressors and prepare us for embracing the New Year ahead.

What to expect?
Together we will enjoy the rich history and savory flavors of ceremonial grade cacao and Chocolate from Oaxaca Mexico. Abigail, founder and director of Lotus, will lead in the spiritual and ritual practice of cacao ceremony as she shares with you her experience with Maya cacao from the roots - its unique origins, intense flavors, and beautiful traditions of chocolate from Oaxaca, Mexico. Dr. Blake Scott, professor of International Studies and Latin American history at the College of Charleston, will also join us to share about the history, traditional uses, and evolution of cacao - from pre-columbian times to the modern era. There is, in addition to its powerful flavor, a rich and profound story in chocolate.

We ask that you open your senses and let your heart guide your mind in this sensory learning experience and community celebration.
