Samantha Goodman

Licensed Massage Therapist, C-RYT Yoga Instructor

Sam is a licensed Massage Therapist and a 200hr, soon to be 500hr, Hatha Yoga Teacher. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Rhodes College, where she focused on the psychosocial and economic influence on the rising rates of eating disorders in the United States. She also completed independent research on alternative forms of treatments for at-risk teens, specifically examining the effects of Wilderness Medicine. Sam grew up in Asheville, North Carolina, where her love for nature and the outdoors was established.

In her words, “My mom always said that from a young age I hated wearing shoes, that I “felt my world through my feet”. To this day, no matter where I am, if I can take off my shoes and feel the earth beneath me I feel at home”.

Sam lived in Memphis, Tennessee for undergrad, returning home to received her 200hr Yoga Teacher Training at Asheville Yoga Center. Sam’s background and training is in Vinyasa/Hatha yoga, but her love for yoga is inclusive of all styles. Sam has further training in Trauma Outreach and Hands-on-Assist as well. Sam received a scholarship to continue her yoga journey in Uvita, Costa Rica for the month of April, returning to Charleston as a 500hr teacher. She couldn’t be more excited! Sam teaches in Charleston at Urban Yoga Charleston and HyLo Fitness while also partnering with local companies: Bendy Brewski and OmOutdoors. She is also a level-one Reiki practitioner.

While Sam’s journey as a Massage Therapist is just beginning, her hands on experience with people sets her apart from her peers. Her passion for helping others through massage is fueled by personal experience: at 18, Sam was in two head-on car accidents just 6 months apart.

In her words, “My body had experienced repeated traumas that it didn’t know how to handle. I spent my early twenties trying to understand how my body could physically, from the outside, be healthy, while knowing something was still not right on the inside. My mom introduced me to yoga and other forms of therapeutic bodywork at a young age, and it was during this time of internal struggle that I leaned in and embraced these in my life. While neither accident was my fault, I realized that the guilt and fear they caused were eating away at me from the inside out. Realizing this, and overcoming it has made me the person I am today. I am a strong and resilient individual, and I share my story in the hopes that someone else who has experienced trauma knows that they are not alone in their healing journey. Eduardo Garcia so eloquently said, “If my scars could speak they would say, you’re welcome, we are happy to hold you where you are, we are happy to have brought you back to who you are”.
